Jetbrains Code With Me
During CoVID, interviewing applications for software development positions was often through video conferencing tools like Zoom. It worked well when applications could join from their own laptops, but sometimes they would join from their company-issued laptops so they could not always participate in coding exercises in the programming language of their choice. However, JetBrains had introduced the Code-With-Me feature so the IDE becomes a lot like Google Docs - multiple users can collaborate and code can be run on the host; the guest would get a light-weight client to connect to the host (or could also use a full IDE). The experience was not always perfect - it was a beta feature and sometimes poor network connectivity also had a part to play.
Since then, JetBrains has turned Code With Me into a production ready feature that is available for FREE in the Community IDEs for Java, Python and Android for up to 30 minutes and 3 guests. A commercial offering that eliminates the time limit and increases the number of contributors to 50 is available for as little as USD 5.78 a month. If you are a startup and want to work with your technical co-founder in writing code collaboratively, this is a really neat feature!
